Barb starts with a ball of clay on her potter's wheel and pulls the clay to form a cylindrical shape, which she then shapes with her cool wooden rib to create the ridges at the base. This makes the form a bit heavier at the bottom, a useful feature when you are putting in or pulling out a sponge. Cool fact: these double as charging stands for your phone!
After they dry to the leather hard stage they are ready to cut into, removing a rectangle of clay which then becomes the holder for the sponge (or phone). After a good amount of smoothing and some time for drying they head to the kiln for the bisque fire. Once fired they are dipped in glazes and fired again to the create the forms shown here.
Each holder is 4" tall and about 3" in diameter.
